What a Mighty God We Serve

This evening as I was reading Psalm 104, I was reminded of the greatness of God. It wasn't just the goodness of God that I was reminded of, it was the actual greatness and majesty of our God that chose to be a part of our lives. Take a look at these verses. I pray that they will bless you and remind you of what a mighty God loves and cares for us.

Psalm 104: 1-10

1Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
2Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
3Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
4Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
5Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
6Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
7At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
8They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
9Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
10He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.

Are You Satisfied?

"Satisfy me in the morning with Your unfailing love that I may sing for joy and be glad all of my days."
Psalm 90:14

I have this verse written on my bathroom mirror. It is a great reminder for me each day not only to live contented with the blessings that I have been given, but to recognize that only God can give me the true joy that makes everyday count. This verse reminds me that when all else fails, God is still there, ready and able, to meet my needs. What a beautiful prayer is summed up here! "God, I need the empty places in my heart to be filled. I need You to satisfy me. I need your unfailing love." Oh, what complete and utter joy comes from recognizing and accepting the truth that only God can do this!

Father God,
I truly believe that You place in each of us a "God-shaped hole". It is designed for You alone to fill, yet often we try to replace You with so many other things. We look for happiness and joy in relationships, careers, success, and so many other places. Father, You alone can satisfy the deepest longings of our heart. How precious it is to know You and to walk in that peace! I don't get it right everyday, and sometimes I need that little reminder on my bathroom mirror in the morning, but I am so thankful that You willingly meet me where I am and quench every thirsty and hallow place in my heart. Thank You for meeting my greatest need.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Happy Easter

Father God,
My life has been forever changed because of your grace. It is a grace not just for the lucky ones or the perfect ones or the ones who have it all together. It is grace and forgiveness for all. As an old friend used to say, "Salvation is for whosoever, and I am glad that I am a whosoever." Father, I cannot begin to explain my depth of gratitude. You paid a price that I would never be able to pay to make sure that I could be with You forever. You love me that much! You love each of us that much! I know that Yours is not a popular message these days, but it is truth none-the-less. You came to love us and not condemn us. You came to forgive us, to save us, to bring us back to fellowship with You since our sin had separated us. Oh, the depth that You would go to do this for us! You would come to live with us, die for us, and live again so that we could do the same. Thank You, Father. Thank You, thank You! I am humbled by your love and forever grateful. I love you, Lord!
In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Spring! Ughhh!!! Spring is not my favorite season. The pollen, the allergies, the unseasonably warm days, the pollen, the end-of-school busyness, the spring cleaning... Did I mention the pollen? Yes, there are many reasons why I do not prefer spring over the other seasons, but, I must admit, there are many things that make spring beautiful and welcoming too. I do love riding down the road and seeing the fresh green grass and flowering plants. I like seeing people out working in their yards and families flying kites and riding their bicycles in my neighborhood. I like that everything gets a new beginning in spring. It's so refreshing!
Spring reminds me that we all need a fresh start now and again. It reminds me to be patient with myself and with others, and it reminds me that God has a way of making all things new. He can take what is broken and make it new. He turns death into life and mourning into dancing. Isaiah 61:3 says that he gives us beauty for ashes. In fact, Isaiah 61 is full of ways that God mends and heals and delivers His children. It is worth a read. What joy and hope can be found in those verses!
Seeing how God uses spring to bring about newness and life makes a bit more enjoyable. I guess I don't mind the spring cleaning all that much, and the pollen doesn't stick around forever. Plus, that end-of-school busyness only means that summer is right around the corner. Maybe spring is not so bad after all.

Father God,
I am so thankful that you have given me new life and that your mercies are new every morning. Thank you for giving us a fresh start each and everyday. Thank you for walking with us and for making all things new. This journey with you is so worth it. I love you, Father.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen

What is Your Legacy?

I love spending time with my husband! Whether we are enjoying a quiet evening at home or finding roads to places we have never been before, I have the best time and feel at such peace when we are together. Genealogy is something that is of great interest to both of us. Recently, we have begun to work on our family trees together. He takes the information that he has been given and I take what has been passed down to me and we see how far back we can trace our roots. It's so very intriguing to me! My favorite part of our genealogy studies is when I find something tangible to relate to the stories that have been passed down to me through the years by my parents, grandparents, and even, great-grandparents. I also love running across new stories that share the legacy of my ancestors and help me to see how certain characteristics or traits are passed down from generation to generation.
I read in Psalm 78 today how the Psalmist vowed not to let his children forget the works of the Lord. He vowed that he would share with them the testimony of God's faithfulness. One of the most powerful phrases to me is found in verse seven. The Psalmist says that he will not let his children, nor his children's children, forget the commands of God. He will declare them so "That they (his descendants) might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments:"
As I read this, I started to wonder what kind of legacy I would leave behind. How would I be remembered? What stories would be told of me in years to come? More importantly, I wondered if those who come after me would know, not only God's commands, but His love for them as a result of my life. What will my legacy be? What will yours be?

Father God,
I stand in awe each day of Your love and faithfulness to me. I am continually amazed at how You pour out Your love and kindness to me. I am thankful for those that You have allowed to be a part of my life and for those who have shared Your love and commands with me. Thank You for using them to shape me and make me into who I am, a flawed and imperfect, yet humbled daughter of Your grace. Thank you for the examples set forth before me. I pray that I too will be able to faithfully share Your story so that others may know You.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen
